Germany vs Côte d’Ivoire Community Screening Recap, Berlin
Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and that spirit was on full display at Berlin Global Village, where members of the Ivorian diaspora gathered to watch Côte d’Ivoire take on Germany in a celebration that extended far beyond the final score.
Hosted by the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire in Germany alongside the Ivorian community association, supporters came together to watch the clash between Germany and Côte d’Ivoire in an atmosphere filled with football, music, dance and plenty of West African flavours.
From plates of plantain and puff-puff to conversations between generations of fans, it felt less like a watch party and more like a celebration of community.
Before kick-off, Birdie caught up with several Ivorian supporters whose confidence was sky-high. Many backed Les Éléphants for victory, while others took the opportunity to show off their matchday fits, proudly wearing national colours and football shirts that reflected both heritage and identity.
We also had a quick chat with the host His Excellency Abdallah Azize Diabaté, Ambassador of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire to Germany, who spoke about football’s ability to strengthen ties between people and nations.
That spirit of togetherness was visible throughout the evening. While the result on the pitch mattered, the bigger story was the community itself , Ivorians, Germans and football lovers sharing a space, celebrating culture, and proving once again that the game remains one of the most powerful ways to bring people together.
