Chelsea FC Brings New Life to a Community Football Pitch in Ecuador

Football kits campaigns don’t always have to live on billboards or in stadiums. For Chelsea, the latest chapter of its “Can’t Tame Us” campaign has landed in Guasmo Norte, one of Guayaquil’s densely populated neighbourhoods, where the club has renovated a local futsal pitch.

The pitch sits right in the middle of everyday neighbourhood life. Children can play, friends can compete, families can watch from the sidelines and neighbours can simply gather around the game.

The renovation gives the community a renewed space to do all of that, while making football more accessible to younger players.

There’s also a strong Chelsea connection to Ecuador. Guayaquil is the hometown of Kendry Páez, while Moisés Caicedo has become another important link between the club and the country. Chelsea says the project is part of its wider effort to inspire future generations of players and fans.

The opening brought together local residents, Chelsea supporters, creators and Ecuadorian singer Javier Neira, who performed during the celebrations. The Guayaquil project is the third community facility Chelsea has refurbished this summer, following similar projects in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

For a grassroots story, that’s the interesting part: the campaign goes beyond the shirt. It puts football back where it naturally belongs, in the spaces where people actually play, meet and build community.
