Lionel Messi has won the 2021 Ballon d’Or award for the best male footballer. He beat out Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho to the award. Bayern talisman Lewandowski was hastily appeased with a goalscorer of the year award for scoring the most goals in the calendar year. It could also be France Footballs’s way of saying sorry for canceling the 2020 version of the event that Lewy was tipped to win. Alexia Putellas of Barcelona also won the award for the best female footballer. Chelsea won the new club of the year award for their UEFA Champions League triumph while Gianluigi Donnarumma of Italy picked up the coveted Yacine Trophy by beating out Edouard Mendy. Pedri of Barcelona picked up the Kopa trophy for best U21 player.
