Borussia Dortmund announce the signing of Niklas Sule of Bayern Munich on a free transfer – the 26-year-old will join BVB at the end of the season

Niklas Sule rejected Bayern's attempts at a contract renewal because he wanted to feel more valued

Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule will join Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer at the end of the current campaign BVB has confirmed. The 26-year-old defender rejected offers from the rekordmeister as he felt he was not valued enough. He has signed for German rivals BVB who conceded five against Bayer Leverkusen, taking their tally of conceded goals to 37, halfway through the Bundesliga campaign.

Mats Hummels is aging and has been in dire form while Manuel Akanji’s contract expires at the end of next season. Dan-Axel Zagadou has not improved since he joined the club with errors still rampant in his game. Against Leverkusen, he gave away the ball cheaply for one of the goals. BVB need to replenish their defense and Niklas Sule is a great start. There are also rumors that Matthias Ginter could be next.

Sule has made 159 appearances for Bayern Munich since he joined the club from Hoffenheim in 2017. He made 117 appearances for die Kraichgauer and current Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann gave him his debut. The 26-year-old has also had two long-term injuries, but he has bounced back from them. He is playing very well right now. Sule has won 73% of his aerial duels in the Bundesliga this campaigne. At 6ft5, you won’t expect any less. He is feisty when dueling for the ball. He can use his massive frame to great effect. Although, he could use it better in the opposition box when attacking headers. He is secure in possession and progresses the ball well with passes and carries. Sule is deceptively quick. He may be easy to turn away from, but he is very quick to react. The Frankfurt-born defender is also one of the best at creating shot actions for teammates from defense despite his conservative passing.
