Tottenham Hotspur sent out of the UEFA Conference League as UEFA’s disciplinary body rules that they forfeited their game against Rennes

An insane ruling considering that Spurs had a COVID-19 outbreak in their camp and had to avoid the game

The UEFA Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Body have ruled that Tottenham forfeited their game against Rennes and therefore lost 3-0, sending them out of the UEFA Conference League. The match was supposed to be played on the 9th of December 2021, but several cases of COVID-19 were identified among the Spurs players and staff leading to the London team avoiding the crucial tie, and leading to much anger from the Brittany side. Antonio Conte will be massively disappointed at the ruling, but this will give them time to focus on their league push. Their performance against Liverpool on Sunday showed that they could well push for the UEFA Champions League places. Spurs have not reached the quarter-final of any UEFA competition in the last three years following their UEFA Champions League runner-up campaign. As for Bruno Genesio’s side, top spot is already secure, but this enforces it. The big winners will be Vitesse who move on to the next round despite a serious threat from Spurs for the place on the table.
