Official: Atletico Madrid Complete The Signing Of Rodrigo De Paul From Udinese

Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul has signed a 5-year deal with Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid have announced the signing of Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul from Serie A side Udinese for 35 million Euros. The creative midfielder played a massive role in Argentina’s recent Copa America triumph. His case is a strange one as his stock has been on the rise for a while now but no team made the push until now.

In his five seasons at the club, he has registered just 31 assists which may look like a lowly number but he has created 71 (!) big chances (Udinese attackers should be publicly flogged for this). In the 2020/2021 season, he created 20 big chances but only accrued 9 assists to his name. The midfielder was also the first to accrue 20 big chances created in the top five European Leagues and the fact that he did it at an average team like Udinese makes it all the more impressive. De Paul could prove to be the signing of the summer.

RDP will join his compatriot Diego “Cholo” Simeone as the Rojiblancos look to defend their La Liga title. Valencia, his former club will get a 6.2 million Euros windfall from the deal. He was used sparingly by Nuno Espírito Santo between 2014-2016 before he left to join Udinese. The 27-year-old has got his big break and put pen to pay on a 5-year deal that will run till 2026.
