Napoli Sack Gennaro Gattuso After Final Day Failure to Qualify For The UEFA Champions League

Napoli Chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis announced the departure of Gennaro Gattuso in a tweet after a final day draw with Hellas Verona which sent them down to Europa League football

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis announced the dismissal of head coach Gennaro Gattuso from Napoli after only a year in charge. A 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona meant that Juventus leapfrogged the team from Naples to secure the final Serie A UEFA Champions League spot. At the start of the matchday, they were in fourth place on the table with their destinies in their hands, and now they will be playing the UEFA Europa League.

“Dear Rino, I am happy to have spent the last two seasons with you. Thanking you for the work done, I wish you success wherever you may go. I also send a hug to your wife and children. Aurelio De Laurentiis.” The popularly crazed president tweeted. Then Napoli’s official account retweeted the message. What an odd way to announce such a matter!

During the 2018/2019 season, Rino finished 5th with AC Milan and missed out on UEFA Champions League football by a point. Today, he missed out on UEFA Champions League football by a point. He did win the 19/20 Coppa Italia for the Patenopei but the relationship between the coach and the president was torn when Napoli suffered a midseason slump and did not get the backing he sought. Napoli are looking at Luciano Spalletti while no one knows what next for Gattuso. We wait to see.
