Brentford have submitted a £15 million bid to sign Danish winger Mikkel Damsgaard from Sampdoria, according to Gianluca DiMarzio.

The 21-year-old had a 2021/22 season curtailed by a long-term injury, but that has not derailed the interest of the London club.

Mikkel Damsgaard broke out at his boyhood club Nordsjælland before earning a move to Serie A side Sampdoria in 2020 for €6.7 million.

In his first season in Italy, Mikkel Damsgaard scored two goals and recorded four assists in Serie A. He would go on to the 2021 European Championship where he would be one of the stars of the tournament as Denmark impressed in their run to the semi-final.

The 2021/22 season was billed to be his season, but a thigh problem kept him out for six months. He didn’t score a goal or record an assist during the campaign.

Notwithstanding, Brentford are keen to sign the player ahead of the new campaign as they look to build on their incredible 13th-place finish under Thomas Frank.

Brentford have had success with a Danish coach and some exciting Danish players (Christian Eriksen, Mathias Jensen, Christian Norgaard, etc). They could add one more to their team this summer if a deal goes through.

The Bees have already signed Aaron Hickey, Thomas Strakosha, Ben Mee, and Keane Lewis-Potter this summer. Mikkel Damsgaard could become their fifth signing of the summer if Sampdoria accept their offer.
