Bologna have rejected a surprise £6.8 million bid for Marko Arnautovic from Manchester United according to The Athletic.

Bologna do not want to sell their star man. It is not clear whether United will return with another bid for the player.

With Anthony Martial out and Cristiano Ronaldo demanding to leave the club, Manchester United are looking for reinforcement up top.

They have now turned to former West Ham and Stoke City forward Arnautovic who is enjoying life with The Rossoblu. The 33-year-old returned to Europe last year after spending two years with Chinese Super League team Shanghai Port.

Arnautovic has scored 15 goals in 34 games for Bologna. The Austrian international is seen as a stop-gap solution to United’s forward problems at the moment.

Arnautovic can play on the wings and through the middle. Versatility that Erik Ten Hag will admire.

It also helps that ETH and assistant Steve McClaren have worked with the player during their time at FC Twente, where he broke out.

United have signed Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, and Christian Eriksen this summer, but they have not added any forwards. Their new signings were unable to help United as they crumbled to a 2-1 defeat against Brighton in their opening game of the season.
