Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans is a target for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta this summer. The North London club is preparing a £30M bid to make their interest in the Belgian midfielder concrete. Tielemans has grown into a fine Premier League midfielder at the King Power Stadium since joining the club in January 2019. He notably scored the winning goal for Leicester against Chelsea in last season’s FA Cup final. However, the former Anderlecht and AS Monaco star wants a new challenge. What greater challenge than Arteta’s faltering Arsenal?
Arsenal want midfield reinforcement despite extending Mohamed Elneny’s contract and Tielemans is a tantalizing prospect. Arsenal are still licking their wounds after a disappointing end to the Premier League season. The Gunners may not have UEFA Champions League football, but Tielemans apparently does not mind the Europa League.
Last week Brendan Rodgers said: “The problem, because of the gossip and speculation around it, it shines a light on him. For me, he’s still the same guy, his professionalism is first-class. That’s why I always play him. He makes passes in the team that not many can make. He fights for the team and that’s the type of person he is. He’s maybe not played to the top of his level sometimes but his commitment, his training every day, and his preparation shows he’s a top-class professional.”
Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are two players who could leave the Emirates this summer with their contracts due to expire in June. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s situation is not known. Arsenal want to bring in Gabriel Jesus while previous links to Raheem Sterling still exist. There are also multiple links with a move for Victor Osimhen.
