OM’s African-Inspired Jerseys Honour Diaspora Fans as AFCON Approaches

When the Africa Cup of Nations kicks off, the game doesn’t stay on the continent. It travels into living rooms, barbershops, cafés, community centres, and packed public viewing spaces across Europe. From Berlin to Paris to London to Marseille, AFCON becomes a shared rhythm for the African diaspora, where football blends with music, food, fashion, and collective pride.

For many fans living abroad, AFCON is more than just a tournament. It’s a moment of reconnection to home, to heritage, and to each other. Streets fill with national colours, watch activities turn into cultural gatherings, and matchdays feel like festivals. Supporting a national team becomes a way of staying rooted, even from thousands of miles away.

It’s this reality that Olympique de Marseille and PUMA tap into with their latest jersey launch. The club’s dual-identity kits aren’t just about design they reflect how AFCON is experienced far beyond Africa’s borders.

By blending OM’s crest with African national symbols, colours, and patterns, the jerseys speak directly to fans who carry multiple identities at once: club loyalists, diaspora members, and proud supporters of their home nations.

Co-designed with Marseille-based designer Tareet, whose Senegalese roots mirror the city’s multicultural fabric, the collection acknowledges that Marseille’s football culture has always been shaped by Africa. The staple-inspired patterns linking the seven jerseys quietly reinforce that idea from different nations, one bond.

To our Berlin audience, if you want to be a part of this tournament, get immersed in football culture music and community surrounding the AFCON. Maaya Berlin (a space for culture, creativity, and community) will be organizing a series of AFCON public viewing, more information below

AFCON may be hosted in Africa, but its heartbeat is global. And with these jerseys, Marseille and PUMA give that global community something to wear, rally around, and call their own.
