Kappa and Tega Akinola Rework Football Jerseys Through Sustainability
A fresh take on football fashion sees classic jerseys transformed into unique, upcycled pieces where heritage meets sustainability and design tells a new story beyond the pitch.
Kappa has partnered with Nigerian-British designer Tega Akinola on “Beyond the Game,” a project that places sustainability at the center of football fashion.
Rather than producing new kits, the Italian label takes a different approach reworking existing jerseys into new forms. Known for her upcycling practice, Akinola transforms classic football shirts into more expressive, feminine silhouettes, giving each piece a second life.

The collection draws from four clubs, reimagining their kits into standout pieces: a Real Valladolid bomber jacket, a Fiorentina mini dress, a Deportivo La Coruña skirt, and an OGC Nice sleeveless top.

At the core of the project is storytelling. Each design keeps elements of the original jersey intact, allowing the history and identity of the clubs to guide the transformation.
With this collaboration, Kappa and Akinola highlight a shift in how football apparel can exist where style, culture, and sustainability come together without losing the essence of the game.
