Borussia Dortmund manager Marco Rose has announced that Erling Haaland is out with a hip flexor injury. The Norwegian only returned last weekend after a short spell out with a muscle injury. Haaland bagged a brace against Mainz this weekend to take his tally to 49 goals in 49 Bundesliga games but it looks like the star striker will miss a few more games.
In the press conference ahead of their tie against Arminia Bielefeld, Rose said, “Thomas Meunier won’t be able to play, Nico Schulz has a torn hamstring and Erling Haaland won’t play and will be absent for a few weeks with a hip flexor injury. Haaland has of course been down. He was happy to be back and still felt really good after the Mainz game.”
Arminia has lost three of their last five while drawing the other two but BVB will have to put in a better performance than their UEFA Champions League showing against Ajax. They lost 4-0 and were outclassed by the Eredivisie champions. Lisandro Martinez and Jurrien Timber locked Haaland up throughout the game. This was particularly worrying as the BVB plan was to loft long balls to Halaland and hope he’d win his duels and bring them into the game. It did not work. Now it looks like Haaland will miss the reverse fixture on the 3rd of November.
Dortmund will be hoping that Donyell Malen can click as he is yet to get going since his move from PSV Eindhoven this summer. Marco Reus will bear the pressure of leading BVB’s attack as the only fit forward in form.
