Valverde Takes Blame for Barcelona’s Poor Form Says ‘He Feels Responsible for what has Happened’

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde says he is to blame for his team’s poor form after their shock 2-0 defeat to Granada. The La Liga champions have endured their worst start in La Liga for 25 years after just two wins from their first five matches.

Valverde’s men had already lost to Athletic Bilbao and drawn with Osasuna before they were beaten on Saturday by Granada. Barcelona’s only victories have come against Real Betis and Valencia this season and Valverde is under immense pressure just five games into the new campaign.

Barca have failed to win any of their last seven away games in all competitions, but the former Bilbao manager has refused to blame his squad.

He told reporters: “In the end, the actors are the players and the coach is responsible. I feel responsible for what has happened. You can lose, but when you lose, you have to deserve to win – and today we have not deserved it.

“Away from home, we are not reaping good results. When it happens in four games, it is already a symptom that we are not too well. “Today, we have not been well. Away from home, we are not playing good games. We are dominating, but we do not translate it into goal situations. It is also true that the opponent is scoring the first goal.”

The Spanish giants are next in action on Tuesday night when they play Villarreal in La Liga. Their fixtures do not get any easier with a trip to Getafe coming just before they welcome Inter Milan and Sevilla to Camp Nou.
