RB Leipzig has moved to extend Christopher Nkunku contract, which runs out in 2024, with Chelsea sniffing around the Frenchman. However, according to reports, the German side will not sell Nkunku this season, wishing to offer him an improved contract with a release clause inserted.

The Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate joined the German club in 2019 after failing to impress in France. He has since silenced critics by turning his career around with the Bundesliga outfit. Nkunku has had a season of a lifetime, racking up numbers that have caught the attention of some of Europe’s elite clubs, including Bayern Munich, Juventus, Manchester United, and PSG.

The 24-year-old took up a  hybrid striker role under Domenico Tedesco and was in electrifying form. He ended the season with 34 goals and 20 assists in 51 games in all competitions and also won the Bundesliga player of the season award.

Chelsea has finally sorted their ownership saga with Todd Boehly and his consortium already approved by the Premier League and the UK government to take over as new owners. The American is set to invest heavily in the squad and hand significant funds to Tuchel to boost his team next season.

Tuchel wants to revamp his forward line after the likes of Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku, Hakim Ziyech, and Christian Pulisic failed to live up to expectations, and Nkunku is one of the names on the shortlist. However, a deal will prove very difficult as the Germans are unwilling to let go of their star asset.

Chelsea is also linked with Manchester City duo Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez, with Ousmane Dembele and Robert Lewandowski also linked with moves to Stamford Bridge.
