PSG make their move for Ousmane Dembele with the Frenchman set to leave Barcelona on a free transfer, four years on from his 105 million Euros move from Borussia Dortmund

The 24-year-old failed to live up to his price tag with injuries and disciplinary issues halting his progress

Ousmane Dembele is refusing a Barcelona contract extension and could leave the club on a free transfer in June

Ousmane Dembele could leave Barcelona as a free agent when his contract expires in June, and PSG have made their first move towards signing the French international. Dembele is free to negotiate and sign a pre-contract with other clubs from January 1 and after a fresh round of fruitless meetings between Dembele’s reps and Barcelona, the 24-year-old could depart the Camp Nou. PSG feel that he will fit into their project and his nationality also helps. Plus, they can offer more money than Barcelona.

His representatives demanded a 20 million Euros salary citing his Ballon d’Or potential (hahaha) and when Barcelona refused, they cited the club’s move for Ferran Torres and bubbling pursuit of Erling Haaland as proof the club has the money. Barcelona, ironically, are trying to reduce Dembele’s salary to allow them to register their new signings. PSG appreciate the former Rennes player and could continue their streak of impressive free transfer moves following the signing of Lionel Messi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Gini Wijnaldum last summer.

Xavi has stated his desire for Dembele to stay, but that hope could be waning. Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Juventus, Chelsea, and Newcastle United all want the mercurial winger, but his wage demands could prove to be a stumbling block in any deal. His injury record is not pretty either. Dembele has missed almost 50% of the competitive games that Barca have played since he arrived at the club. He has missed almost 2 years of action due to injuries. At the moment, all things point to Dembele departing the Camp Nou this summer.
