The Premier League has approved Everton‘s SECOND request to postpone their 3 pm boxing day tie against Burnley. Everton had seen their first request rejected just 24 hours ago. The Premier League pleaded with supporters who were set to make the trip to Turf Moor. The Premier League also reinforced its criticized decision to continue with the fixture schedule “where safely possible”.

Rafa Benitez stated that he was surprised that their first request was rejected alleging that he had to play players who are not ready. He said he only had nine players available for the tie. After earning a hard-fought draw against the flailing Chelsea, Benitez did not want to further risk his squad. Liverpool vs Leeds and Watford vs Wolves have already been postponed and now Everton vs Burnley enters that list.

Everton, who sit 14th on the table, have had a rough patch with calls for Benitez’s sack amid a fall-out with Lucas Digne. Their form has been unsteady and a trip to Burnley is always tricky. Burnley, 18th, now have four games in hand against relegation rivals Newcastle and Norwich. Why aren’t all these games just canceled for now? Over to the Premier League.
