Southampton have completed the signing of Sekou Mara from Bordeaux for £11M. He is now the sixth signing of the club this summer. The France U-21 striker will leave the relegated French side to join the Premier League team on a four-year contract.

Sekou Mara broke through last season in his debut senior campaign with six goals and one big chance created in only eight Ligue 1 starts. He made a further 18 substitute appearances in the league. With Armando Broja heading back to Chelsea, Southampton have decided to snap up one promising striker to replace another.

Sekou Mara, Armel Bella-Kotchap, Romeo Lavia, Joe Aribo, Gavin Bazunu, and Mateusz Lis will all turn out at St Mary’s for Southampton this coming season.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl told the club website: “Sékou is coming here to score goals and has shown in the French league he can do this, now he needs to work hard and show he can do this in the Premier League. He is a young guy who will need time to adapt to a new country and a new league, but we are excited about his potential and what he can become in the future.”

Sékou Mara added: “I’m really happy to sign for Southampton and to be a Saint for the next years. Southampton have given me a good opportunity to progress. I’m a young player and I have to work. I think Southampton is the best club for me to develop myself and progress to be one of the best. I’m impatient to begin with this team and score goals.”
