35-year-old Sergio Ramos is set to leave Real Madrid after 16 trophy-laden years at Real Madrid

After 16 years at Real Madrid, Sergio Ramos is set to announce his departure from Los Blancos the club has announced. The defender and captain of the club had become synonymous with the club he joined from boyhood club Sevilla at 18. Signing for Real Madrid at 19 was huge but he has lived up to his billing and more. He is now firmly in the conversation for best defender of all time. His trophy cabinet is bountiful.  Four UEFA Champions League titles, five La Ligas, four FIFA Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, two Spanish Cups, and five Spanish Super Cups. The defender Sergio Ramos is a modern great for Real Madrid and Spain.

According to Marca, Real Madrid offered Ramos a one year deal with a 10 percent reduction in salary, but the defender was looking for at least a two-year contract. Ramos will join Real Madrid’s list of legends pushed away through the backdoor, especially under Florentino Perez. A press conference is scheduled for Thursday, 17th of June, 2021 at Valdebebas to announce the decision.
