RB Leipzig has announced the appointment of 36-year-old German-Italian manager Domenico Tedesco as head coach following the dismissal of Jesse Marsch. According to various sources, Roger Schmidt and Ruben Amorim rejected approaches from last year’s DFB-Pokal finalists.
The manager has left Spartak Moscow where he has been in charge for two years. Domenico whose last name “Tedesco” means German in Italian became popular for winning the U17 Bundesliga with Stuttgart and bringing Erzgebirge to the Bundesliga before taking over at Schalke. He led Schalke to a second-placed finish. He guided Spartak to the UEFA Champions League qualification last season.
When RB Leipzig said they wanted to go a different direction from Ralf Rangnick, we did not expect this far a direction. Domenico Tedesco is famous for his defensive approach and very methodical football. He has signed a deal until 2023 and his immediate task will be getting Die Rotten Bullen up from 11th on the Bundesliga table, starting with a tie at home against Borussia Monchengladbach.
