Marcelo is considering retirement when his contract with Real Madrid runs out at the end of the season – the legendary Brazilian full-back has been at the club since 2007

Reports in Spain claim that legendary Real Madrid full-back Marcelo is considering retirement at the end of the campaign

Real Madrid legend Marcelo is considering hanging up his boots professionally when his contract with Los Blancos runs out in June. Marcelo has been at the club since January 1, 2007, and has played 533 games for the club, scoring 38 goals and assisting 101 goals. The 33-year-old has won 22 trophies at Los Blancos and needs two more to become the highest ever trophy winner with the club.

The current Madrid captain will retire as one of the best left-backs the game has ever seen. A supreme attacking force blessed with pace, vision, control, trickery, and incredible stamina, Marcelo may have even usurped compatriot Robert Carlos in the Madrid legendary hierarchy. With Brazil, he was not so popular though, as the football-crazed nation wondered why he never really brought that magic to the national team. He did make 58 appearances for his country, scoring 6 and assisting 12. Marcelo won the 2013 Confederations cup with Brazil.

His decline over the last three seasons has led to Ferland Mendy taking his left-back spot and he could be set to permanently hand over. What a player! What a legend!
