Nouveau riche Newcastle have signed Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid and the spending will continue as they plan to fight relegation

Newcastle have completed the signing of former Tottenham right-back Kieran Trippier on a 12 million Pound deal from La Liga Champions Atletico Madrid. The English full-back is the club’s first signing following the take over of the Saudi investment group Public Investment Fund (PIF) after they acquired Newcastle on the 7th of October 2021 for 320 million Euros. He will join Eddie Howe as the Tyneside club fights relegation. Howe worked with Trippier when he was the head coach of Burnley. He signed the right-back from Manchester City in January 2012 after an impressive loan spell at Turf Moor.

Kieran Trippier said; “I really enjoyed my time in Madrid, but when I became aware of interest from Newcastle United and having worked with Eddie Howe before, I knew this was where I wanted to be.”

Eddie Howe said: “I am really pleased to welcome Kieran to Newcastle United. I have long admired his abilities and have followed his career, so when the opportunity arose to secure him, we didn’t hesitate. A lot of hard work has gone into planning for the January transfer window long before the month began, which is clear in how quickly we have been able to complete this move.”

Newcastle will switch their attention to Lille central defender Sven Botman in their bid to strengthen their loose defense

Newcastle Want to sign three more players

Newcastle are targeting Lille’s 21-year-old Dutch defensive giant Sven Botman as their next signing. The Jong Ajax graduate has been a revelation for the Lille. He partnered Jose Fonte on the club’s way to their first league title since the days of Eden Hazard. While Botman was not keen on the move when Newcastle made their first move, new reports suggest he is now open to the move. AC Milan, his preferred option, lack the funds to compete with Newcastle. As for Lille, they simply want money. Football’s greatest conman Gerard Lopez sold Lille due to pressure from major US creditors Elliott Management and JP Morgan. He left the club in debts between €130 million and €200 million. The club’s finances is in the red and Botman, whom they signed for only 8 million is an asset they can use to secure the funds they desperately need. Botman who enjoyed his breakout season at Heerenveen will be a blockbuster addition to a backline that has already shipped 49 goals so far. Newcastle are also interested in Lucas Digne but there is no reciprocity on that font.
