As the transfer window approaches, rumors continue to swirl about players who might be switching clubs this summer. One prominent gossip involves Juventus, who are prepared to launch a bid to sign Jorginho from Chelsea. According to ESPN, the Old Lady has made the Italian midfield maestro a priority and are willing to offer Adrien Rabiot as part of a possible swap deal.
The 30-year-old’s current deal with Chelsea would expire in 2023, and the Italian side plans to take advantage of his contract situation by tempting him with a move to Turin. The Blues would be wary of losing him for free as they did with Andreas Christensen, who has reportedly agreed to a deal with Barcelona. Juventus will test Chelsea with a bid of around 20 million euros and are willing to throw in Adrien Rabiot to sweeten the deal.
Jorginho completed a 60 million Euro move from Napoli in 2018. Former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri approved the transfer as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield. Since then, he has established himself as a mainstay in the team and is the club’s designated penalty taker. He has made 181 appearances across all competitions since moving to West London, scoring 26 goals and assisting eight. Most of his goals came from the penalty spot.
Massimiliano Allegri is planning a midfield overhaul this summer and sees the former Napoli man as the one to usher in a new era. His side has suffered from inconsistency this season and sits in fourth place. They are five points behind league leaders AC Milan, having played one more game.
Speaking to Calciomercato, Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, revealed he was aware of interest from Juventus. “I have not talked to Juve, but I know of their interest in Jorginho. We have a contract with Chelsea until 2023, and it is a particular moment for the club where there are no negotiations, also because the market is blocked both in entry and exit. If the situation unfolds, the priority will be to deal with the renewal. Should Chelsea fail to renew their contract, we will listen to all the teams involved.”
The 30-year-old was nominated for the Ballon d’Or last season thanks to his efforts in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph and helping Italy in their Euro 2020 success. He was named the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year but finished third in the Ballon d’Or ranking behind first placed Lionel Messi and second-placed Robert Lewandowski.
