Injury Hits Manchester City and Bayern Munich Ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League

Manchester City and Bayern Munich faces major setback as key defenders have been ruled out of their Wednesday UEFA Champions league clash.

City who is scheduled to face Shaktar Doneskt on Wednesday will be playing the Ukrainian side without John Stone and Aymeric Laporte leaving Nicolas Otamendi as the club’s only central defender.

Stones suffered the injury in Ukraine on Tuesday, where City are preparing for Wednesday’s Champions’ League group game with Shakhtar Donetsk.

The England international could miss up to eight league and cup matches for reigning Premier League champions City, who suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat at newly-promoted Norwich last Saturday.

In a bid to savage the injury crisis, City Boss Pep Guardiola hinted that full-back Kyle Walker and defensive midfielder Fernandinho; an unused substitute against Norwich could be options in the heart of City’s defence.

On the other side the German side will have to play their Uefa Champions league competition opener against  Red Star Belgrade without David Alaba, as the Austrian Left back will be out of action for three weeks after picking up an  injury on  his left thigh at the weekend

Disclosing the unavailability of the Austrian defender, Bayern Munich head coach Niko Kovac ruled the left-back out of action until after the October international break.

He will miss Wednesday’s home meeting with Red Star Belgrade and is in doubt for the club’s second Champions League encounter, a trip to Tottenham at the start of next month.

“David will be out for two, maximum three weeks,” Kovac said.
