Iceland 0 Vs 4 Germany: Hansi Flick’s men make it three in three by putting four goals past Iceland

Iceland proved no match for Die Mannschaft as the Germans dominated the Nordic nation

Germany put four goals past Iceland in what was a commanding display from Hansi Flick’s men. It was a stroll in the park.

The goals came from Serge Gnabry, Anthony Rudiger, Leroy Sane, and Timo Werner who rounded up a solid display from the German machines. They remain at the top of the Group J UEFA qualifying group.

When the game metrics are looked at, it is clear the Icelanders put up very little resistance against the Germans. They were outplayed.

The Bayern Munich players were at the forefront of this dominant display. Two goals and three assists came directly from Bayern players. Hansi Flick has carried his magic touch to the national team fielding his usual 4-2-3-1 formation. Germany have not conceded a goal under their new manager. What a brilliant change from the last days of Joachim Low!

The first half started with Serge Gnabry rounding off a pass from Leroy Sane in the 5th minute. Antonio Rudiger added to the scoresheet by converting Joshua Kimmich’s trademark flighted free-kick in the 23rd minute. For all of Iceland’s pressing towards the end of the half, which in truth disrupted the flow of the Germans, they still couldn’t create any meaningful chance to get a shot on target.

Germany have now won their three matches under new head coach Hansi Flick

The second half started with the Germans making swift attacking moves which were reminiscent of prime Bayern Munich under Flick. Kai Havertz and Lukas Klostermann replaced Serge Gnabry and Jonas Hofmann.

Timo Werner missed a great goal opportunity in the 48th minute after a well-weighted through ball from Ilkay Gundogan.  He turned provider in the 55th minute by setting up Chelsea teammate Havertz but he couldn’t convert.

On 56, Leroy Sane made it three after scoring from a lovely move following a spell of possession from the Germans.  Leon Goretzka had the ball in the back of the net later but it was disallowed. He was then replaced by Florian Wirtz in the 80th minute which marked the last substitution for the Germans.

Timo Werner managed to convert a pass from Havertz in the 89th minute to complete the rout. The goal came at the right time for a man who is seemingly low on confidence in front of goal. He has now scored in all three games under Flick

The Iceland substitutions had little effect on the game as they couldn’t withstand the potency of the German attack. On the plus side, the manager of Iceland Arnar Viðarsson seemed comfortable handing minutes to youngsters. Andri Gudjohnsen and Andri Fanner Baldurrson, both 19 came on as late substitutes in the game.
