Greuther Fürth 1-3 Bayern München; Die Rekordmeister go top of the Bundesliga with a comfortable victory despite going a man down

Bayern Munich sealed a measured and composed victory over Greuther Fürth who are yet to win a game in this Bundesliga campaign

A mismatch at the Trolli-Arena

It was always going to be a tough night for Greuther Furth as they hosted champions Bayern Munich. The hosts were playing on their 118th birthday and had only won a point since their promotion to the top flight. The last time they were at this level was the 2012/2013 season and they finished dead last. Stefan Leitl’s side had to play a Bayern Munich team that recently punished Bochum 7-0. They have won their last seven games in all competitions, including the wiping of Barcelona at Camp Nou.

First Half

In ten minutes, Die Rekordmeister established dominance over their counterparts. Alphonso Davies strode forward before sending a cross into the box. Maximilian Bauer tried to defend it but only set it up for Thomas Muller to send a sweet strike in. It was his 218th Bayern goal. His left-footed strike now takes him to third on the list of all-time Bayern highest goal scorers. The reds were in control and locked in hard.

Joshua Kimmich has been in terrific form. He scored twice in the win over Bochum and he added another in the 31st minute. After a good passage of play, Leroy Sane set it up for the midfielder who angled it into the net. Golden shoe man Robert Lewandowski flicked a corner a few minutes later but it hit the bar. The Bayern man looking to score in his 16th Bundesliga game in a row. Halftime in southern Germany, Greuther Furth 0-2 Bayern Munich.

Second Half

It had been perfect for Bayern up until this point but immediately after the break, Benjamin Pavard got sent off for a dangerous tackle. His second yellow card and the Frenchman received his marching orders. Greuther Furth tried to create dangerous situations but could do nothing apart from a tepid free-kick that Manuel Neuer smothered. Leroy Sane set up a dangerous cross but Lewandowski’s left-footed strike was easy for Sascha Burchert. The Pole could not convert to equal Gerd Muller’s record of scoring in 16 consecutive matches.

Sane came off for Marcel Sabitzer and Håvard Nielsen came off for Dickson Abiama. Dickson added some bite to the cloveleavers but they failed to create anything worthwhile. Instead, Bayern Struck. Joshua Kimmich has created the most shot chances in the Bundesliga and he sent a dangerous cross into the box that Sebastian Griesbeck turned into his own goal under pressure from Lewa. Greuther Furth 0-3 Bayern Munich. Minutes later, Griesbeck had a one on one chance but got caught up in his own legs.

In the 81st minute, Dayot Upamecano gave a sloppy pass that Dickson Abiama caught. Neuer had to come out and he made himself huge twice allowing Davies to take the ball away. On 87, the vocal Furth fans had something to cheer as Cedric Itten climbed highest to head in Timothy Tillman’s cross. The Bayern academy graduate will be happy with his assist against his former side. Greuther Furth 1-3 Bayern Munich. It ended that way.

Bayern go top of the league and Greuther Furth stay bottom of the Bundesliga.
