Former Saint-Etienne defender Wesley Fofana has extended his contract with Leicester City until 2027 the club has confirmed. The defender was a target for Chelsea but his club moved to tie him down to a long-term contract as he nears a return to full fitness. The 21-year-old signed for The Foxes from Les Verts in October 2020 for 30 million Euros after only a handful of games. That lack of top-flight experience did not stop the French U-21 defender from dropping brilliant performances as Leicester City picked up the FA Cup. He sustained a nasty leg break preseason against Villarreal and has not played since then, but Brendan Rodgers confirmed that he could return to action against Rennes on Thursday.
“I’m really happy to sign a new contract,” Fofana told LCFC TV. “It shows the club have confidence in me offering me a contract to 2027. “I’m really happy to be here. It’s my club, I love the fans, so I’m really happy and really looking forward to being back playing. We have a great team and are continuing to progress, with a desire to win more trophies. That’s why I have committed my future to the club.”
