Flamengo Coach Unhappy with Inclusion of Two of His Key Players in Brazil’s Int. Friendly Squad

Flamengo of Brazil’s Coach, Jorge Jesus, has frowned at the inclusion of Rodrigo Ciao and  Gabriel Barbosa, two of his key players in Tite’s International friendly squad.

Jorge who hit out at the Brazilian Football Confederation (Confederacao Brasileira de Futebol – CBF) and Selecao manager Tite for inviting two players from his team for the two international friendlies against the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Teranga Lions of Senegal, protested that the agreement was a player per team.

Jesus criticised the CBF for being insensitive about the crucial stage the Brasileirao (Brazilian Serie A) has reached and the importance of their key players for the crucial league games.

“We will lose some players for Brazil National Team and Arrascaeta (Uruguay). At a very complicated moment, decisive for the championship,”Jesus replied to inquiry facilitated by a top Brazilian sports journalist.

“I do not understand very well, because the Brazilian team said that they were going to call only one player per team in order not to cause much disruption,” Jesus complained.

“If we look at Argentina, they have been careful not to call up any players from either Boca (Juniors) or River (Plate) who are in major competitions for Argentine football.”

A total of seven Brasileirao players were included in Tite’s 23-man Selecao squad with all their clubs’ managers protesting.

The home-based players include Santos (Athletics), Weverton (Palmeiras), Daniel Alves (Sao Paulo), Matheus Henrique and Everton (Gremio).

Gremio who also supplied two players to the Selecao also has their manager – Renato Gaucho hit out at the national team selectors same as Palmeiras boss, Mano Menezes.

The Brasileirao 2019 is 20 weeks old with Flamengo top of the 20-team standings on 45 points.

Palmeiras are second in the table on 42 points, while Santos are third on 37 points.
