Everton 2-1 Arsenal; Demarai Gray’s added time piledriver earns the VAR-frustrated Toffees a comeback win against Mikel Arteta’s clueless Gunners

Everton finally win after eight games without a win to keep Rafa Benitez in his job (Director of Sports Marcel Brands is not so lucky as he is rumored to be leaving)

Demarai Gray netted a thunderbastard in the 90th minute as Everton came back from a goal down to defeat Arsenal

Demarai Gray scored the winner in the 91st minute to help Everton come back and defeat Arsenal despite two overruled goals. A tense game expected to be marred by protest against the Toffees board. Evertonians planned to leave the stadium in the 27th minute to signify 27 years without a trophy for the club. Certainly not a milestone they’re proud of.

After eight games without a win, under-fire boss Rafa Benitez and Everton desperately needed maximum points. After 27 minutes, as planned, some Evertonians began taking their leave. They certainly didn’t miss much as the first 44 minutes showed no promise of good things to come. Both teams lacked a cutting edge.

Both teams have struggled for goals all season, however, the toffees would seemingly take the lead when Richarlison, in place of the injured Dominic Calvert Lewin, headed home an Andros Townsend free-kick but the goal was ruled out by VAR for an offside.

Much to Mikel Arteta’s delight, things took a turn for the worst for Everton when Martin Odegaard poked home Kieran Tierney’s low cross with a half volley on the stroke of halftime. Arsenal lead. The goal stirred the Goodison fans who were still moaning about their disallowed goal.

Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette blanked in front of goal as Arsenal succumbed to a victory against Everton

After the break, Richarlison was once again under the spotlight as his near post finish seemed to have leveled matters until VAR struck. Offside!

The unrelenting Brazilian would however get his much-deserved goal when he headed home a rebound from a Demarai Gray belter.

With heartbreak averted, the imperious Demarai Gray would stun the Gunners with a bullet from yards out which went in off the frame of the goal and the Goodison fans sparked into wild celebrations. The shot whizzed past Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale.

The toffees had to dig deep and battle, but they brought their shameful two-month-long winless run to an end and in spectacular style. Arsenal’s lackluster away form was once again on display as they failed to capitalize despite taking the lead. They failed to capitalize on a chance to move into the fifth position on the premier league table. Arsenal has now lost back-to-back games from winning positions as Mikel Arteta’s tactics continue to puzzle.
