Can Inter Milan break the 8 year old jinx?

A monopolist competition has been operated by Juventus for the past eight seasons in the Italian Serie A. Other teams have succumbed to the superiority of the old lady. They have acquired the best players, the best coaches, the most meticulous technical staff and most passionate supporters.

Juventus have won the Scudetto thirty five times. However, a worthy opponent has arrived in the form of Inter. The acquisition of Belgian’s all time record goalscorer has boosted the team’s effrontery to challenge for the title this season. He has found the back of the net ten times in fifteen appearances.

They currently sit top of the standings with Juventus chasing them closely. Two points separates the sides with over twenty games to be played however, When the sides locked horns earlier in the season, Juventus went on to win the game 2-1. Goals from Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo gave Maurico Sarri a well deserved victory.

Jose Mourinho led Inter to winning the treble in the 2009/2010 season. He clinched the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and the UEFA champions league which was the first treble in Italian football history.

Antonio Conte is currently at the helm of affairs and would be hoping to inspire the team to a first Scudetto in over eight seasons. Juventus have not really been impressive this season, Mauricio Sarri’s tactical acumen hasn’t really been able to fit into the style of their star player Cristiano Ronaldo. This has sparked up a dispute between the player and the coach. Although, the prolific goalscorer has been able to collaborate with Gonzalo Higuain.

The recent loss to Lazio away from home put Sarri’s team into jeopardy and showed that they can actually be beaten nevertheless,  Inter can go all the way to win the Serie A title. It will be a shock to the football world and make the Italian league more competitive in subsequent seasons.

  1. […] Speaking of winners, Antonio Conte has taken down the dynasty that he helped build. After 9 straight…Antonio Conte has done what he set out to do. He went to war with his lethal frontman Romelu Lukaku and they emerged victorious. Their major signing was right-back Achraf Hakimi who gave them a speedier dynamic. They also got Arturo Vidal from Barcelona and completed the fees for loanees Nicolo Barella and Stefano Sensi. The back three and the goalkeeper were a constant, the front two a constant with Alexis Sanchez alternating. It is the staple of a Conte winning side. A standard first team that barely changes and a handful of sideline soldiers he can call upon.  […]
