Bayern Munich interested in Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland – they’d be crazy not to be

Bayern Munich are well known for picking apart their rivals in the Bundesliga (it is a smart strategy in all honesty) and they are eyeing one of the league’s biggest stars – Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland. Haaland arrived from RB Salzburg in January 2020 and has taken the world by storm. He has scored an incredible 60 goals in 60 games. In his last game, he led Dortmund to a 3-0 win SC Wehen Wiesbaden in the first round of the DFB-pokal. He scored all three goals. The Norwegian striker is the fastest player to hit 20 UEFA Champions League goals. Haaland did it in 14(!) games.

Of course, the eyes of the world are on him. Chelsea pushed hard to sign him this summer but they were rebuffed by Borussia Dortmund even though they stand to lose millions by waiting till his release clause of 75 million Euros comes into play in the summer of 2022. Bayern have signified their interest in the youngster.

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic appeared on German TV channel Sport 1 on Sunday and had this to say. “He’s a top player, and I hear a great boy too. You look there, but he’s a Dortmund player. Sixty goals in 60 games. You have to look, otherwise we would be full amateurs”.

Bayern have arguably the only striker better than Haaland right now on their books in Robert Lewandowski. However, Lewandowski turns 33 in a few days and the higher-ups at Bayern will be planning for life after the Pole. They would need to pay high wages though and appease his ever-demanding agent Mino Raiola. BVB will probably prefer to sell abroad. Also, despite his advancement in age, Lewy does not look like slowing down any time soon. Will they be able to coexist?

For now, the 21-year-old has three years left on his contract and we will have to wait till at least next summer to see how this plays out.
