According to several reports, Arsenal have moved ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli this summer. After Pierre Emerick Aubameyang finalized his move to Spain, the Gunners had Alexander Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as striking options. However, with both players set to leave the Emirates this summer, Mikel Arteta is looking for a new man to lead their attack, and Victor Osimhen is at the top of his shopping list.

The North London side have been linked with several targets in their quest to solve their striking problems. The list includes Darwin Nunez, Jonathan David, and Patrik Schick, but the former Lille man is at the top of their wanted list.

The Nigerian has enjoyed a remarkable campaign with the Italian side this season. He has netted 16 goals, providing five assists in 26 games in all competitions, making him one of the hottest properties on the market. The Gunners are not put off by Osimhen’s enormous 84 million pound price tag but are not alone in the quest for his signature. He has drawn interest from some of Europe’s big teams, including Manchester United.

Napoli transfer expert Emanuele Cammaroto has reported that while the 23-year-old is flattered by links to some of England’s biggest clubs, he wants to play in the Champions League with the Serie A side instead. “The big names of the Premier League are following him and are beginning to come forward,” said Cammaroto.

“But Napoli’s idea is to keep the Nigerian center forward, at least for another season, unless there are significant proposals. At the moment, Arsenal has come forward and has sounded out the player’s entourage.

“Osimhen has registered the interest of the Gunners, and it seems that he has been flattered by the proposal. But he doesn’t consider Arsenal a first choice for his career. The former Lille player wants to play in the Champions League with Napoli, and then he will choose his future.”
