AC Milan defender Simon Kjaer is out for the rest of the season following injury against Genoa

Kjaer is out for six months, effectively ending his 2021/2022 season

Simon Kjaer is out for a lengthy period after surgery following an injury he sustained against Genoa

Denmark and AC Milan defender Simon Kjaer is out for at least six months after undergoing arthroscopic surgery of the left knee for the reconstruction of his ACL and reinsertion of his MCL. This surgical procedure means the man who leads AC Milan’s defense is out for the rest of the season. Kjaer got beaten on the dribble by Andrea Cambiasso as Milan visited Genoa where their legend Andriy Shevchenko is head coach, and as he turned he sustained damage to his knee. Kjaer was then stretchered off early on in Milan’s 3-0 win at Genoa on Wednesday.

Kjaer finished 18th at the Ballon d’Or event a few days ago. At the event, he was given rousing applause for starting the CPR process that saved Christian Eriksen’s life at EURO 2020. The defender was in the best moment of his career before picking up this injury. It’s a big hit for AC Milan and Stefano Pioli with Alessio Romagnoli being dreadful in the last 18 months. They will be hoping that Fikayo Tomori can avoid injuries before they can get in a man in the January transfer window.

The 32-year-old’s agent Mikkel Beck took to Twitter and said, “Simon Kjaer today underwent a very successful surgery on his knee. He will be back even stronger than before rather sooner than later.”

Milan sit in second place on the Serie A log. They are one point behind leaders Napoli who drew 2-2 at Sassuolo on Wednesday. They are third in the UEFA Champions League but will need to beat the already qualified Liverpool at the San Siro and hope Atletico Madrid defeat FC Porto before they can qualify to the next round.
